Possum Freeway

The Possum Freeway is a portable environmental controller that provides simple remote
control of domestic appliances. The unit can control items such as TV, Video, Hi-Fi,
lights, lamps, power sockets, alarms, intercoms, door, window and curtain openers,
loud speaking telephones, pagers and other vital equipment. The easy to learn operation
enhances the ability of disabled people allowing independence to be maintained.
A large backlit scanning display with the option of icons, text and voice announcement
of selections make it ideal for people with cognitive and/or visual impairment.
The size of the icons on the menu is determined by the number of functions and this
can assist users with poor vision e.g. a 4 function menu has larger squares than
a 10 function menu. Between 1 and 32 user definable functions can be controlled
per menu. For overlay formats see freeway trolley.

To assist users with communication the Freeway can record and replay basic spoken
phrases.
The functionality of the Freeway can easily be changed by a family member, carer
or health professional slotting in a different front panel and it is therefore beneficial
in the following areas:
Where control is needed in 2 rooms for different items e.g. bedroom and living room.
In rehabilitation wards, nursing homes and hospices where it can be used by people
with different abilities.
For people who are learning the concept of environmental control, input switches
and the scanning menu method. They can start by operating 1 function and progress
to control more items using the same piece of equipment.
The unit is operated by a wide range of input switches, including a wireless remote
control switch suitable for users who require greater portability.
